Struggle in the Second

Freshman Jaline
Freshman Jaline "Cookie" Miranda scored Citrus' lone goal in their 3-1 loss to Canyons on Tuesday.

Glendora, CA -- For one half, the Citrus College Women's Soccer program looked like they would hang and even maybe pull off an upset against visiting and conference favorite College of the Canyons on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls nearly matched the Cougars shot for shot and even took a 1-0 lead into the break. That all changed in the second half though as Canyons doubled up the Owls on shots and scored three unanswered in a 3-1 loss for Citrus.

Things started off well enough for the Owls as Citrus took it to Canyons in the early going. The Owls rattled off three shots to Canyons' four, and each team earned a corner kick. The Owls even got on the board in the third minute of first half stoppage time when a cross from sophomore Taylor Lewis found a diving sophomore Alyssa Selio who in turn touched the ball to a wide open freshman Jaline Miranda who buried the ball.

The lead didn't last long enough though. Canyons came out and scored in the 66th minute to tie the match up. 11 minutes later, they took their first lead on a beautiful top shelf strike from 20 yards out by the Cougars' Marissa Kneisel that made it 2-1. Kneisel would put the game away for good in the 90th minute when a turnover by Citrus in their own third of the field right at Kneisel's feet, left no one in front of her and the goal by a hard charging effort by freshman keeper Amber Henry.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will try and rally on Friday when they travel to West Los Angeles College for a 4:00 PM kick-off.
