Women’s Soccer: Owls Win First Ever Conference Title

Culver City, CA - There may be no more appropriate quote for the Citrus College Women's Soccer team than "Rome Wasn't Built In a Day". 15 years ago, Citrus College Women's Head Soccer Coach Tim Tracey took over a program that couldn't even field a program the year prior. A decade and a half later, Tracey has helped make the program a staple of the Western State Conference and a perennial playoff contender. On Friday afternoon, all of that program building paid off in a big way as the Citrus College Women's Soccer team won the first ever conference title in school history with an 8-0 win at West Los Angeles College.

The Owls wasted very little time in staking claim to their crown as freshman Berenice Mancinas took a pass from freshman Monica Perez and gave Citrus a 1-0 lead literally seconds into the game. In the third minute freshman Amethyst Trang made it a 2-0 game, while sophomore Isabela DeLeon helped give Perez another assist when she netted her 14th goal of the season in just the 8th minute of action.

In the second half, Citrus put the game away for good when Perez and freshman Jennifer Duran scored opening goals. DeLeon and Trang would each add another before it was all said and done, with the Wildcats putting the last goal of the game in their own net to reach the score of 8-0.

With the win, Citrus improves to 15-6 overall and 12-2 in WSC South play. The Owls win the WSC South outright with 36 points, two points clear of second place Santa Monica College. Citrus will once again be in the post-season for the sixth time in the last eight years. The 2019 CCCAA Southern California Playoff Pairings will be announced late on Tuesday afternoon.
