#13 Owls Keep Renegades at Bay

No. 13-ranked Citrus College kept its dominant play going with a 3-0 victory over Bakersfield College Friday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 8-1-0 on the year and remain undefeated with a 2-0-0 Western State Conference mark. The Renegades drop to 5-2-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference.

Citrus put the pressure on from the first whistle, outshooting Bakersfield 15-to-2, and wasted little time finding the back of the net.

After the Owls were awarded a corner kick in the eighth minute, Kaylee Sanchez drove the cross deep into the back corner of the 18-yard box where Janelle Alvarado headed it back across the frame of the goal and into the net.

The Renegades managed to keep the Owls at bay for the rest of the first half, but Citrus came out of the break hungry for more. Just one minute into the second half, Jayme Beatty sent a diagonal ball into the box, finding a wide-open Alaissa Morales, who headed it home.

Brianna Herrera-Martinez capped the scoring in the 54th minute after firing off a long-range shot after the Renegades tried to get the ball out of danger.

The Owls remain at home, hosting LA Valley on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
