Owls Go 2-2 At WSC LA Valley Event

Valley Glen, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Swim team opened up Western State Conference Dual Meet action last Friday afternoon when they travelled to Los Angeles Valley College to take on the Monarchs as well as Santa Monica, Bakersfield, and Santa Barbara City Colleges. The Owls fared well against some stiff competition, going 2-2.

The Owls kicked things off with a 3rd Place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Sophomore Kimberly Torres teamed up with freshmen Cassidy Miller, Hailey Bickett, and Natasha Martinez to post a time of 2:13.62. Freshman Elaine Hodge would follow that up with another third place finish in the 1000 Free, posting a time of 12:17.30.

In the 200 Free, Freshman Katelyn Rivas just out touched teammate and sophomore Lauren Quintero for fifth place with a time of 2:16.65. One event late, Torres came back in the 100 Back to finish in fourth place with a time of 1:14.79. In the 50 Free, freshman Miranda Furuto won the whole enchilada posting a time of 26.40.

After that it was Miller, who came in with a strong time of 1:19.41 in the 100 Breast, good enough for fifth place on the day. In the 100 Free, Quintero posted the top time and finish, clocking in at 1:04.49 and finishing in 6th Place. In the 500 Free, freshman Sara Huelskamp paced the Owls, posting a time of 6:35.65 and finishing in 4th place.

In the final individual event of the day, Torres claimed fifth place in the 100 IM, posting a time of 2:43.73. The final event of the day, saw Quintero, Hodge, Furuto, and Rivas team up to take third in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:53.46.

Overall, Citrus went 2-2 on the day. The Owls were bested by Santa Barbara City College and Bakersfield College, only losing to the Renegades by 16 points. Against Los Angeles Valley and Santa Monica Colleges though, the Owls were victorious outpointing the Monarchs by 17 and the Corsairs by 62.

Citrus will take a break from competition over the next week before resuming conference competition on Friday March 20th at 2:30 when Citrus hosts Bakersfield College, College of the Canyons, Los Angeles Pierce College, Santa Barbara City College, and Ventura College.
