Owls Finish Close Fourth at First WSC Meet

Woodland Hills, CA - The Citrus College Women's Swim team took part in their first WSC double-dual meet of the 2016 season on Friday afternoon with host Los Angeles Pierce College. With four other schools in attendance, the Owls finished in a close fourth place, just three points back of third and 10 points shy of a second place finish.

The Owls got the afternoon off to a great start when they finished in 2nd place in the 200 Medley Relay. With sophomore Katelyn Rivas on the backstroke, sophomore Cassidy Miller handling the breast stroke, freshman Marissa Kasnetsis doing the butterfly duties, and freshman Priscilla Camara anchoring the relay in the free, the Owls posted a time of 2:10.82, a full seven seconds faster than the third place finisher.

After that, sophomore Carly Casillas picked up some valuable points with a fourth place finish in the grueling 1000 Free, posting a time of 13:21.70. Freshman Sabrina Fregoso followed that up with another fourth place finish, this time in the 200 Free (2:16.21). Freshman Gabriella Galbraith had her time to shine next, when she took 4th place in a stacked 50 Free field with a time of 30.16. After that it was Kasnetsis who shone, with a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:35.68.

Sophomore Hailey Bickett kept things rolling in the 100 Fly with a 6th place finish and a time of 1:14.76. Rivas followed that up with a 4th place finish in the 100 Free, posing a time of 1:03.65. In the 100 Back it was Casilla again, picking up the points, finishing in 6th place with a time of 1:19.85. Miller would then post the best Owl finishes in back to back events, finishing the 500 Free in 4th place with a time of 6:24.60, and then finishing in 3rd place in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:19.66.

The Owls ended the day in 200 Free Relay, when Fregoso, Galbraith, Kasnetsis, and Bickett teamed up to finish in 4th place with a time of 1:56.50, less than a second away from a third place berth. All in all, Citrus totaled 67 points, nine points ahead of fifth place Bakersfield College, just three points shy of third place LA Valley, and 10 points off of second place Allan Hancock College.

Citrus will take a break from action this weekend before resuming conference competition on Saturday March 19th at the WSC Event hosted by Santa Barbara City College. The Owls will be in attendance with College of the Canyons, Cuesta College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and of course their host for the afternoon, the Vaqueros. The first event is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start.
