Owls Win First Conference Event in Recent Memory

Santa Monica, CA - The Citrus College Women's Swim team took on College of the Canyons, Los Angeles Pierce College, host Santa Monica College, and Los Angeles Valley College on Friday afternoon, and for the first time in recent memory came home with the #1 spot. The Owls had a number of top performances, and outpointed their conference foes for the win on the afternoon. 

 Freshman Hunter Olivier set the tone with a first place finish in the 50 Free, posting a time of 26.62. Olivier would follow that up with a second place finish in the 100 Free (58.72), just besting teammate and fellow frosh Chloe Barrocas who came in third (1:00.48). In the 500 Free, freshman Victoria Pena finished in first place with a time of 5:57.45, while sophomore Marissa Kasnetsis finished third with a time of 6:13.05.

Pena took home another first place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 12:23.18, while sophomore Sabrina Fregoso was second in the same event with a time of 13:03.32. In the 200 Back, freshman Megan Card earned some valuable points with a second place finish in a time of 2:29.07. Kasnetsis would also earn a second place finish, this time in the 200 Fly, posting a time of 2:48.59. In the grueling 400 IM, freshman Clare Romero continued to impress, coming in second place with a time of 5:46.12. 

In the relays Barrocas, Pena, Card, and Olivier teamed up for a first place finish in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 4:06.45, a full 15 seconds faster than the next closet competitor. In the 400 Medley Relay, Romero, freshman Jessica Carmody, Kasnetis, and sophomore Gabriella Galbraith teamed up for a solid third place finish with a time of 4:51.56.

In the win, the Owls tallied 78 total points. College of the Canyons was the next closest team with 48 points on the afternoon. The Owls will take a break from conference action to take part in the Riverside City Invitational next Friday.
