Women’s Swim is Fifth at WSC Championships

Santa Maria, CA - The Citrus College Women's Swim program closed out their 2017 campaign with  strong fifth place showing at the 2017 Western State Conference Swim and Dive Championships. It's matches the highest finish for Citrus College since the 2007 season.

 Freshman Victoria Pena gave Citrus it's first big point of the weekend with a 7th place finish in the 500 Free (5:42.33). After that it was freshman Hunter Olivier who took 5th place in the 50 Free, posting a time of 25.52. In the 400 Medley Relay, Citrus picked up some valuable points with a 5th place finish on the backs of freshmen Megan Card, Jessica Carmody, Oliver, and sophomore Marissa Kasnetsis with a time of 4:33.72.

The Owls continued the trend with a 7th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with Card, Carmody, Kasnetsis, and Pena teaming up for a time of 2:05.45. In the 200 Free, Olivier turned in one of the best performances of the weekend shaving nearly eight seconds off her personal best with a time of 2:01.80 for a 5th place finish.

Card kept things going for Citrus with a 5th place finish in the 100 Back, posting a time of 1:05.51. Card also took part in the 800 Free Relay for the Owls, combining with Pena, Carmody, and Olivier to finish 4th with a time of 8:43.24. In the 1650 Free, Pena came through for Citrus with a 4th place finish and a time of 20:01.40. After that it was Card, who turned in the best finish of the weekend for Citrus, nabbing 3rd place in the 200 Back (2:20.96).

Olivier would follow that performance up with a 4th place showing the 100 Free (55.95). The Owls would close out the weekend with a 6th place finish in the 400 Free Relay (3:57.08). In that race, Freshman Chloe Barrocas joined Card, Pena, and Olivier to give Citrus valuable points. On the weekend, Citrus accumulated 315 points for a solid fifth place finish out of the 10 competing programs. ​
