Volley Owls Swoop Into Santa Monica And Snatch Up Conference Win

Women's Volleyball captured it's 2nd conference win last night at Santa Monica College. The Owls had dropped a 3 set conference match against perennial conference foe LA Pierce last Friday, but wasted no time in recovering as they dispatched the Corsairs, who fell to 0-2 in conference with the loss.

The Owls offense, which combined for a solid team hitting percentage of .299, was led by veteran setter Tiana Gildernew. Gildernew piled on 48 assists in the match, scooped up 16 digs and even took matters into her own hands on the attack, with 4 dumps for kills out of 6 attempts. On the receiving end of Gildernew's offensive distribution were key weapons Briana Voght and Leah Price, who each charted a super efficient .455 hitting percentage. Voght had 13 kills out of the middle attack and Price gave the Santa Monica defense bad dreams with 18 kills on 33 attempts, displaying both her terminal hitting skills, as well as keeping the Owls in long rallies with outstanding outlet hitting.

Other standouts were Libero Natalia Castro who shoveled up 18 digs in the backcourt and outside hitter Amanda Belzl who terrorized the Corsair serve receivers with a whopping 8 aces on the night.

Citrus moves to 15-10 on the year, and are now 2-1 in conference play. The Owls take the court again this Friday when they travel to Victor Valley for a 6:00 start time.
