Volleyballers Take a Set From Cuesta in Home Opener

Women's Volleyball packed in 3 matches Friday and Saturday, including the 2018 home opener on Friday and a doubleheader at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday.

The Owls faced visiting Cuesta on Friday night for their home opener. Citrus took the first set from the Cougars, who were riding a 2 match win streak coming into the match. Citrus came out strong in the first set, and dispatched the Cougars in a tight one, 25-23. However Cuesta fired up its engines and came out swinging in the second set. Cuesta never looked back as it capitalized on Owl hitting errors and offensive production, and won the match in 4 sets.

Citrus saw some strong individual performances. Sophomore Libero Natalia Castro, the reigning WSC Libero of the Year, scooped up a match high 22 digs and added an ace and 5 assists to the box score.  Setter Gina Lipscomb created some scoring opportunities for herself and recorded 6 kills on the night with no errors and a hitting percentage of .333.

Citrus turned right around and traveled to Mt. SAC Saturday, facing Imperial Valley and Mt. SAC. The Owls dropped both sets in 3, and fell to 3-16 on the year.

The Owls take to the hardwood again this Saturday when they travel to Pierce, as they begin Western State Conference play. First serve is at 6:00 PM.
