Citrus Volleyball Turning Their Season Around Despite Minor Setback

Citrus Volleyball has had an adventurous 2018 season. After playing one of the toughest preseason schedule in the state, most of it on the road, the Owls have fought their way into contention for the WSC conference title. Despite a setback Wednesday night against visiting Santa Monica, who now sits in 1st place with a 4-0 conference mark, Citrus has found a groove after a few lineup tweaks and lots of hard work on the practice court. 

Citrus dropped the first 2 sets after an ankle sprain scare threw off the rhythm for the Owls fairly early in the 1st set. But Citrus recovered, showing up big in set 3 and establishing leads throughout. Santa Monica would outlast the Owls though, ultimately winning in 3 sets. 

Citrus got strong play from several players including offensive weapon Gina Lipscomb, who has played setter for large portions of the season and is now lined up in the left side hitter position. Her ball control and offense have helped Citrus at the net and in the backcourt. Another switch that has shown positive results with Lipscomb moving to a hitting position, is defensive specialist Julianna Aceituno taking over setting duties. The team is adapting to the changes in good fashion, and are poised to challenge Santa Monica for contention as round 2 of conference play looms in the near future. 

Citrus moves to 5-18 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Owls take the court tomorrow night in a crossover match against visiting Santa Barbara. First serve is at 6:00 PM in the Citrus Gymnasium.
