Fighting Owls Pick Up Huge Conference Win Over Victor Valley

Citrus Volleyball took a huge step up in conference tonight as they got redemption on Victor Valley, in what was the 2nd and final matchup between the conference foes in 2018. Citrus topped the Rams in 4 sets, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. 

The Owls came out a bit flat in the first set, and Victor Valley capitalized on the opportunity, taking the first game 25-20. But Citrus made adjustments and came back in the 2nd set firing. The two teams battled back and forth in what was an exciting match with loads of long rallies and defensive hustle plays. But Citrus would own the night, sweeping the last 3 games and knocking the Rams down from their perch in a first place tie in the WSC South. The win for Citrus makes the conference a very interesting place, with the possibility of leader changes still in the future. The Owls move to 4-2 in conference, with a chance to take down conference leader Santa Monica on the road next Friday. But to have the opportunity at a title shot, Citrus will have to go thorough Glendale first on Wednesday. 

The Owls saw some of their best performances of the season for the second consecutive match. Several players continue to top their season best stats late in the season. Gina Lipscomb, the centerpiece of the Owl offense, delivered for her team big time, putting away 26 kills and scooping up 30 digs on the night, both season highs for the outside hitter. Julianna Aceituno, who took over the setting duties later in the 2018 campaign, beat her season best in assists with 45. Outside hitter Alexsis Rodriguez set her season high in digs with 20. 

Citrus plays next on Wednesday at Glendale and then hits the road again for the meetup with Santa Monica.
