Glendale Not Enough For Fighting Owl Volleyball

Citrus Volleyball was back to work Wednesday at Glendale, after putting together a string of wins in the second half of WSC conference play. The Owls swept the Vaqueros 3-0 in a decisive win. The win marks the 3rd straight for the Owls, and completes the season sweep of Glendale.

Leading the charge for the Owls was none other than Gina Lipscomb, who is the leading scorer for Citrus in 2018. Lipscomb tallied 19 kills on the night for a hitting percentage of .341 and scooped up 25 digs as well. Middle blocker Iris Bernal had a super efficient game, putting away 9 swings and only committing a single error all night for an excellent .471 clip. Bernal also contributed two blocks to the effort. Libero Natalia Castro did her thing as she dug up 12 and put away a couple of aces.

Setter Juilanna Aceituno continues to make drastic improvements as the offense facilitator, as she came up with 34 assists in the win.

Citrus finds itself in a battle for a playoff berth in a hotly contested conference. The Owls are 5-2 in conference play as they go into the final conference game Friday at Santa Monica. Santa Monica is currently 6-1, so a win by Citrus would tie the two teams with Victor Valley who is finished with conference play and is at 6-2 already. The potential three way tie could be decided by game percentage and eventually point ratio, so every serve counts for the Owls if they are to gain a spot in the playoffs.

Citrus takes on Santa Monica Friday at 6:00 PM.
