Citrus Closes out Kickoff Classic

Citrus College battled in the final day of the LA Mission 2^nd Kickoff Classic but dropped both matches Saturday. The Owls fell 3-1 to MiraCosta (21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22) and 3-2 to Chaffey College (14-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9) to move to 1-5 on the year.

Sabrina Evangelista continued to lead the Owls and posted a double-double against the Spartans with 14 kills and 12 digs. Caren Stone also had a double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs, while Alexis Aguayo finished with 12 digs and Vanessa Marquez had 39 assists and 12 digs.

In the nightcap, Gabriella Aguilar finished with 13 kills, while Kalin Greene and Evangelista each finished with 12. Stone added 11 kills and a career-high 21 digs. Aguayo posted 12 digs, while Marquez had 10 and Evangelista had 19 digs. Marquez dished out 46 assists in the five-set thriller.

The Owls get a rematch with the Panthers on Wednesday as Chaffey makes its way to the Owls' Nest for a 5 p.m. serve time.
