Citrus College came up short against undefeated No. 2-ranked Ventura College in a three-set defeat (25-15, 25-11, 25-11) Friday night.
The Owls drop to 4-9 on the year as they head into conference action, while the Pirates kept their season perfect at 12-0.
Sabrina Evangelista led the Owls with seven kills on the night and was the only Owl attacker with a positive hitting percentage and Vanessa Marquez finished with 12 assists. Mychaela Ortiz spearheaded the defensive efforts with five digs, followed by Caren Stone and Neesie Gonzalez, who each added four digs.
Citrus opens Western State Conference action next week, hosting the College of the Canyons on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
