Women's Water Polo Bounce Back After Falling Short

Women's Water Polo Bounce Back After Falling Short

Facing a double header, the Women's Water Polo team had their day cut out for them, as their first game was to play against Riverside City College, a team that came into the match with an undefeated record of 8-0. On top of their undefeated record, the Riverside City College Tigers also won the state championship last year. The Tigers reputation is a strong one, as they have reached the state championships 6 times in the last decade. Those numbers alone were reason enough to get the Owls excited to overthrow a dynasty. Unfortunately the game plan folded for Citrus, as the Tigers came out Victorious at the end with a 9-4 win.

With the game momentum swaying back and forth amongst both teams, the Owls looked the part early as they were neck and neck with the Tigers prematurely in the 1st quarter. Only allowing one goal, the Owls we're following the game plan perfectly. Entering the 2nd quarter, Citrus tied the score with an unassisted overpowering goal from Chloe Barrocas in the 4th minute. Barrocas had came up with the ball right in front of the Tigers goalie who was making an effort to transition towards the Owls side.

Things started to look up for Citrus following the Barrocas goal, but then turned quickly in favor of the Tigers as they netted 6 more goals by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Owls answered back, bagging another 3 goals by the 4th quarter, but it was not enough to bring down the Tigers who put up a total of 9 goals. By the final whistle, the Tigers ultimately displayed why they remained undefeated. The Owls indisputably put up a great battle against the defending state champs.

The second game of the Owls double header was against the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs. Both teams have already played each other twice earlier in the season with the series record tied at 1-1. Ultimately Citrus left the game with a win of 10-5. Throwing in 10 goals, the Owls were led offensively by Hunter Olivier who scored 4 goals. The Owls also had valuable contributions from Brooke Padilla, Chloe Barrocas, and Jessica Carmody who left the match with 2 goals each by the final whistle.

The next challenge for the Women's Water Polo team is to face off against the Los Angeles Pierce College Brahma Bulls in an away Conference match that could potentially bump their season record up to 7-6.
