Women's Polo Makes Waves In 4-0 Start

Women's Water Polo opened up its 2019 campaign over the weekend in a four match road trip to American River College for the annual River Rage Tournament. The Owls were full steam ahead as they rolled over their opponents, outscoring them 59-19 en route to a 4-0 record. 

Friday vs Sacramento City College

The Owls wasted no time jump starting the season when they went up 6-0 in the 1st quarter. Perhaps most impressive about that stat, is all 6 goals were scored by different players, some good foreshadowing for there rest of the tournament. Citrus continued to attack the opponent goal, netting another 11 goals to seal the win 17-1. Rachel Sherman scored 4 goals and plucked 4 steals in the effort. Keylee Burke and Hannah Long each chipped in 3 goals.

Friday vs American River

Looking to continue the momentum of the 1st match, the Owls would pick up where they left off, attacking the opponent goal relentlessly en route to a 19-8 victory. 10 different Citrus players would score goals in the contest, an impressive feat. Keylee Burke topped all goal scorers with 5, and added 4 assists and 2 drawn ejections. Rachel Sherman added 4 more goals to her season total and notched 8 steals and 2 assists. 

Saturday vs American River

Day 2 of the tournament would look the same as the night before, with the Owls facing off against American River in a rematch on Saturday morning. Although the final score was closer, the result was the same, as Citrus topped the host team again, 12-5 and improved to 3-0. Rachel Sherman once again led all scorers with 3 goals and 4 steals. Cameron Schween, Lauren Olivier, Keylee Burke and Angelica Espinoza all contributed 2 goals. 

Saturday vs San Joaquin Delta

The final game of the weekend for Citrus would prove to be the closest matchup yet, as the Owls hung on in a hotly contested match to win 11-6. Sherman netted another 5 goals and nabbed 5 steals. Keylee Burke and Hannah Long both scored 2 goals in the effort. The win moved the Owls to a perfect 4-0 to start the season. 

Citrus plays again Thursday in a two game home stand vs Santa Barbara and San Joaquin Delta at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, respectively.
