Women's Water Polo: Red Hot Owls Make Mark in Riverside Tourney

Citrus Women's Water Polo continued its red hot 2019 preseason with a 3-1 outing at the Riverside Tournament last weekend. The Owls took on Southern California Regional opponents Orange Coast, Long Beach, Cerritos and Golden West.

The Owls started off the weekend on Friday against OCC. The Owls beat the Pirates 16-2 in a one-sided victory that featured 9 different goal scorers for Citrus. Rachel Sherman netted 4 shots and added 2 assists and 8 steals; Keylee Burke found the back of the cage 3 times, and Francesca Vargas and and Cameron Schween each contributed 2 goals.

Citrus turned right around Friday to take on Long Beach. The Vikings would play the Owls tough and the game stayed tight throughout. But Citrus fell just short, dropping the match 10-12. Schween led the Owls in scoring in the loss, scoring 3 times. Rachel Sherman and Keylee Burke each scored a pair of goals.

Day two of the tournament came Saturday with the Owls starting off against Cerritos. Citrus once again was met with a tough opponent, but this time the Owls edged out a victory, 13-10. Sherman posted 5 more goals, and Schween and Burke both netted another 3 goals each.

To round out the weekend, Citrus took on Golden West. The Owls once again won a close one, dispatching the Rustlers 10-8. Sherman added 3 more goals to her total, and Schween, Laruen Olivier and Bailey each chipped in 2 goals. Dynalee Huerta posted 6 saves in the win.

Citrus improves to 8-2 overall in 2019. The Owls jump back into action Thursday October 3rd at home vs Riverside and San Diego Mesa.
