Women's Water Polo: Central Coast Trip Ends In Split

Citrus Women's Water Polo travelled to San Luis Obispo last weekend to play in the 2-day Cuesta Rabobank Tournament, hosted by Cuesta College. The Owls took on Riverside, San Joaquin Delta, Long Beach, and Cuesta. Citrus split the weekend, going 2-2.

On Friday, Citrus took on Riverside in the 1st match of the tournament. The Tigers beat the Owls for the 2nd time in as many meetings in 2019, by a score of 14-6. Six different Owls scored a single goal each in the effort, Rachel Sherman, Keylee Burke, Hannah Long, Breanna Bailey, Kortney Molle, and Nicole Philips. Goalie Dynalee Huerta recorded 7 saves.

Citrus would then take on San Joaquin Delta for the 2nd match on Friday, for the 3rd time in 2019. The Owls would sweep the season series between the two teams, winning the match 6-4. Burke and Long both scored 2 goals, with Cameron Schween and Angelica Espinoza both scoring 1 goal each. Lauren Olivier posted 4 steals in the win, and goalie Kate Carlyle recorded 6 saves. 

Saturday morning would bring Long Beach, who had beaten the Owls 12-10 in their previous contest. Citrus would lose the game, 7-14. Sherman scored 3 goals, stole the ball 5 times and drew 5 ejections to lead the team. Olivier and Burke each scored 2 goals. 

To wrap up the weekend, the Owls took on host Cuesta. The Owls got back on the winning side of things, taking out the Cougars 10-3. Sherman once again led in scoring with 4 goals, adding an impressive 6 steals to her stat line. Long scored 3 more goals, and Francesca Vargas, Burke, and Bailey all scored 1 apiece. Olivier snatched up 5 steals. 

Citrus improves to 11-5 in 2019 and has a conference record of 0-1. The Owls play again Wednesday in a road trip conference game at LA Pierce. Game time is 2:00 PM.
