Women Finish 3rd at Rio Hondo Invite

Whittier, CA (Cross Country) -- The Citrus College Women's Cross Country team had a strong showing on Friday afternoon finishing in third place at the Rio Hondo Invitational. The Owls had their best showing of the young season and had five Top 20 finishes on the day.

Freshman Marily Meza led the way with a 12th place finish in a time of 21:24. Teammates and sophomores Lovella Perea and Heather Hinostro were about 20 seconds behind her finishing in 14th and 15th place respectively with times of 21:45 and 21:46.

Freshmen Katherine Duncan and Julia Galvez rounded out the two other Top 20 spots as Duncan cross the finish line in 18th place (22:19) while Galvez did so in 20th place (22:19). Sophomore Michelle Lopez rounded out the top times with a 23rd place finish in 22:44.

The men wouldn't fare as well on Friday finishing 8th out of the 8 competing squads. Freshman Gregory Castro (24:01) and Wesley Ewart (24:33) crossed the finish line first for the Owls in 41st and 43rd place. The rest of the Owls manned finishes in the 50's as the remaining five took up six spots between 50th and 54th place.

The Southern California Preview is the next race up for the Owls. Citrus will take part in one of the largest races in SoCal this coming Saturday September 15th at Fairview Park in Costa
