Owls Chug On at Mt. SAC Invite

Walnut, CA (Cross Country) -- The Citrus College Cross Country teams continued to show improvement and continued to chug on this past weekend at the Mt. San Antonio College invitational. On the women's side their Top 7 all finished under 25 minutes, and for the men they finished in a strong pack.

For the women, Citrus finished 18th out of the 26 competing teams. Freshman Marily Meza took her usual spot at the front of the pack finishing the course in a time of 21:23. Sophomore Lovella Perea was just behind her at 22:04, and fell soph Heather Hinostro just behind that at 22:25. The best story of the day though, was freshman Zhihui "Dolphin" Shen who was the seventh scorer for the Owls, crossing the finish line in 25 minutes flat a six minute improvement for her over the course of the season.

On the men's side, Citrus struggled as a team, finishing 20th out of the 20 scoring teams. The Owls did have a strong day from their top three though, as all finished close by. Freshman Wesley Ewart finished the course in 25:36, while freshman Gregory Castro was just two second behind. Behind Castro was freshman Michael Tejada who finished in 25:39.

The Owls' 2012 regular season will come to a close in two weeks at their next meet the Western State Conference Championships. The meet will be hosted by Santa Barbara City College at Shoreline Park on Tuesday October 23rd. The first race is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start time.
