Men 10th, Women 12th at WSC Preview

Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Men's and Women's Cross Country team's got an idea of the stiff competition they'll face later this month at the 2013 Western State Conference Championships. The men finished 10th out of 12 competing teams, while the women took 12th out of 14.

The men finished with a team time of 2:15.38 on the 4 mile run course at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura. Freshman Diego Lopez paced the pack with a time of 23:24.82, good enough for 12th overall individually. Freshman Jesse Sandoval was the next Owl through the shoot, taking 71st place overall, and finishing the course in a time of 26:19.72. Sandoval was closely followed by sophomore Wesley Ewart (75th | 26:34.60) and freshmen Juan Cruz (79th | 26:44.14) and Jerrick Basallo (82nd | 26:44.14) to round out the top five times.

On the women's side the Owls posted a team time of 2:05.55 on the 5K course. Sophomore Julia Galvez was the first Citrus runner across the finish line. Galvez finished 38th overall and finished the course in a time of 24:13.74. Freshman Jackeline Perez was just behind her finishing in 52nd overall, with a time of 24:51.73. Freshman Carol Hinostro (57th | 25:03.13), sophomore Marilyn Meza (67th | 25:44.47), and freshman Krystalynn Bazan (73rd | 26:02.53) finished out the top five for Citrus.
