Santa Barbara, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Cross Country team continued it's recent strong streak over the weekend when it participated in the 2015 Santa Barbara City College Invitational at Leadbetter Beach. The Owls were a surprising 3rd place finisher, only finishing behind State Championship favorites, Mt. San Antonio College and Glendale College and just ahead of College of the Canyons.

Leading the charge was sophomore Janet Meza-Avila. Meza-Avila finished in 16th place individually with a time of 22:55.26. Behind her was sophomore Antonella Curinga, racing for the first time since the season opening race due to injury, and finishing 25th place overall with a time of 23:25.58. After that it was sophomore Nataly Meza-Avila who crossed the finish line in 29th place, clocking a time of 23:36.55. Freshman Brittany Thelen (25:04.70) and sophomore Andrea Flores (25:50.96) rounded out the scoring runs with 39th and 49th place finishes respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Daniel Hernandez-Cabrerra was the first Owl to cross the finish line, coming in 33rd place individually with a time of 24:24.29. Sophomore Emmanuel Mercado was just a few steps behind coming 37th place individually with a time of 24:33.65. After that it was sophomore Eric Alvarez who clipped the tape with a 40th place finish and time of 24:35.85. Sophomore Juan Cruz (25:06.71), and freshman Julian Ramirez (25:31.63) rounded out the scoring races with respective finishes of 54th and 61st place. As a team, the Owls finished in 9th place out of the 14 competing teams.

Friday's race marks the conclusion of the Owls 2015 regular season slate. The Owls will be back in action for hopefully what is just the first of their post-season events, the 2015 Western State Conference Finals on Friday October 23rd. The first race is set for a 3:00 PM start at Legg Lake in Whittier, CA.
