Montoya Advances to State Championships

Orange, CA - For the fourth straight year, the Citrus College Women's Cross Country team will have at least one representative at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships. Freshman Marissa Montoya qualified to represent the Owls in Fresno after finishing in 75th place against nearly 200 runners.

Montoya broke the tape in a time of 21:14.7, shaving over seven seconds off her time from the SoCal Preview which was held on the exact same course. Freshman Giselle Vargas was the next Owl across the line, coming in 98th place with a time of 21:55.7. Freshman Marleen Romero (22:26.1) and Ruby Munoz (22:28.8) were the next two Owls to finish, coming in 111th and 113th place respectively with just over a second separating the two. Wrapping up the top five was freshman Alice Lin who finished in 149th with a time of 24:20.5 taking off 20 seconds from her previous effort at Irvine Regional Park.

For the men freshman Alberto Dolores paced the pack with a time of 22:53.8 (119th), an improvement of just over half a minute. Freshman Eric Perez was behind him with his time of 23:28.7 (138th). After that it was freshman Watts Waddington (24:27.2 | 169th), sophomore Julian Ramirez (25:05.5 | 176th), and freshman Jose Mora (26:39.6 | 190th) for the Owls. Of the final four, only Mora was able to post a faster time, knocking off roughly 19 seconds from his previous effort.

The 2016 CCCAA State Championships are set for Saturday November 19th. The first race is the women's race, which will kick-off at 10:00 AM.
