Owls Fall to Canyons in 11

Glendora, CA - In what felt like a game between two conference title contenders, it took 11 innings to figure out which team would be handed it's first Western State Conference East Division loss. In the end, it was College of the Canyons who prevailed, knocking off Citrus College 5-4 in extras. 

 Citrus would score the game's first run, in the bottom of the first inning when freshman Andre Flores drew a bases loaded RBI walk. Canyons would quickly respond with a sacrifice fly to right in the top of the second, but the Owls would go back in front 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Marcos Campos scored on a Cougar error. 

Canyons would answer immediately getting an RBI single through the left side of the field, but Citrus had an answer yet again. The Owls would be the beneficiary of another Canyons mistake, this time with sophomore Kysouke Ushimaru scoring 

Just like the previous time though, Canyons would rally, tying the game up at three runs a piece in the top of the seventh when the Cougars scored on an error. In the Top of the 9th, Canyons would seemingly take all of the air out of the Citrus sails when the Cougars hit a home run to center field to surge back in front 4-3. 

Needing a miracle, the Owls got pretty much that when freshman Isaiah Montoya was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game back up at four. The Owls would get out of a jam in the Top of the 10th, but weren't so lucky in the top of the 11th when another error led to a Canyons score. In the bottom of the 11th, freshman Oscar Mejia Jr. would lead the inning off with an single, and make his way all the way to third base but was left stranded to end the game. 

With the loss, Citrus drops to 11-9-1 overall and 3-1 in WSC East play. The Owls will be back out on the road this Saturday when they travel to Barstow College for a 1:00 PM start time.    ​
