Barstow, CA - After suffering yet another extra innings loss on Thursday afternoon, the Citrus College Baseball team got back on track on Saturday afternoon with a 7-4 win against the host Vikings. The Owls led early, and then held on late getting some breathing room in the top of the ninth to help secure the win.

Freshman Benjamin Aguilera helped give the Owls the early lead hitting a solo shot in the top of the second. Fellow frosh Kristian Scott would help give the Owls some breathing room in the top of the third, roping a 2-RBI double that plated freshman Donovyn Curiel and sophomore Jacob Gafford.

Curiel would get in on the action in the top of the fourth with a 2-RBI single that brought home freshman Jesse Villalobos. That score would make it 5-0, and Citrus would be held without a run over the next four innings.

With a sizable lead at their advantage freshman Peter Eitapence and sophomore Aaron Bernal did their part on the mound. Eitapence pitched the first four innings, giving up just two total hits, walking one, and giving up one run in the bottom of the fourth. Bernal would take over in the top of the fifth scattering seven hits and three runs across the final five innings, giving Citrus just enough on the bump.

Barstow would cut their deficit down to one run in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of scores. Scott would help the cause once again though in the top of the ninth driving in a run with an RBI single, while a Barstow error would allow one more to score to give Citrus that three-run cushion. Bernal (5-1) would cruise in the ninth, striking out the first batter, getting the second to pop up to the shortstop, and having the third groundout to second base.

With the win, Citrus improves to 12-9-1 overall and more importantly 4-1 in WSC East play, pulling into a 3-way tie with Glendale College and College of the Canyons for the early first place lead. The Owls will start a three game set with one of those two teams, Glendale College, on Tuesday at 2:30 PM at Citrus College.
