Owls Swept by Cougars

Santa Clarita, CA - For just the second time in the last 11 years, the Citrus College Baseball team got swept by College of the Canyons in their WSC series. The Owls last the final of four games to the Cougars on Saturday afternoon 7-1, giving Canyons four wins against Citrus this season.

 As has been the case all week long, the Owls struggled at the plate, managing six total hits and scoring just one run. Canyons meanwhile doubled up that hit effort and had three of their 12 hits go for big extra bases, while all six of Citrus' hits were singles.

The Cougars continued the trend of all week, getting to the Owls early with a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth. Canyons added a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, all before Citrus could add a run. To make matters worse, Citrus lone score would come on a double-play ball in the top of the eighth.

In the loss, freshman Donovyn Curiel was 2-for-4. No other Owl had more than one hit. Sophomore Roberto Baldanebro would be saddled with the loss, pitching seven innings, giving up five of the seven runs, walking five, but also striking out five in the process.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 18-17-2 overall and 8-8-1 in WSC East play. The Owls will try and stop their four-game slide on Tuesday when they start their final series of the year against Barstow College. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM in Glendora.​
