Long Beach, CA - For 3 1/2 quarters the citrus College Football team gave highly ranked Long Beach City College all it could handle. In the end though the Vikings vast talent helped Long Beach run away from the Owls late in a 28-49 loss for the Owls.

Citrus would be the first team to find paydirt on Saturday evening. The Owls needed just five plays to go 67 yards and take a 6-0 lead after sophomore Robert Gonzalez scampered into the end zone from 6 yards out. Long Beach quickly took the lead back, but the Owls made it clear they were going to give the Vikings a game.

Trailing by eight midway through the second quarter citrus made it 14 to 12 after Citrus sophomore Christian Beltran help cap off a 62 yard drive with a 12 yard touchdown reception from freshman quarterback Brian Meyette. Unfortunately for the Owls, Citrus couldn't keep Long Beach off the board for the remainder of the second quarter as the Vikings took a 21 to 12 lead into the break.

The Owls came out of halftime and put another score on the board. This time it was freshman Gino Mastandrea who found the end zone via a 10 yard carry. Long Beach would answer a little over three minutes later, but Citrus had an answer of its own thanks to a 20 yard field goal from freshman Luis Vasquez.

Long Beach would score again on their very next possession, but Citrus wasn't done yet as they scored once again early in the fourth quarter. The Owls would need 11 plays to go 80 yards. Sophomore Jacob Patton caught a 12 yard pass from Meyette that made it 28-35 with nine minutes to go. That would be the last score though for the Owls as Long Beach went on and scored twice more before the end of the game.

In the loss, Meyette finished 22 of 43 for 337!yards. Sophomore Brayton Newton was his favorite target with seven catches for 135 yards. Sophomore linebacker Adrian Barrios had a team high eight tackles, while freshman Antonio Sparrow added seven.
