Football is Bowl-Bound After Victory at Mt. San Jacinto

Citrus Football rounded out regular season play at Mt. San Jacinto Saturday, and made the trip home the victors. The Fighting Owls dominated the Eagles, snatching the win 56-24 and qualifying for bowl play next weekend.

Citrus emphasized its stout run game in the win, piling on copious yardage and crossing the goal line a staggering 8 times. On the day Citrus ran for 417 yards, with Marcus Knight charting 184 yards, 3 touchdowns, a long rush of 80 yards an an average of 10.2 yards per carry, his best performance of the season for the Owls. Not to be outdone, his partner in crime in the backfield James Brown ran for 172 yards, picking up 3 TD's of his own and averaging 7.8 yards per carry.

The Owl defense held the Eagles to 266 total offensive yards, limiting the home team to just 11% third down conversions and stopping the run game effectively, allowing only 3.4 yards per rush. DJ Allen tallied up 7 tackles on the day including a sack for a 17 yard loss. Eden Smith got 6 tackles in the effort and added an interception with a 12 yard runback. Jonathan Shelley also posted an interception with a 24 yard runback, on top of his 2 tackles.

The win for the Owls moved them to 7-3 on the season overall and a 4-1 conference record. The solid 2018 performance was enough to land a berth in the Western Sate Bowl on Saturday November 17th vs Chaffey College, at Chaffey's Grigsby Field. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM.
