After opening American Metro League action with a win last week, Citrus College slipped on the road as it couldn't overcome a big first-quarter deficit to fall 49-13 to Santa Ana College.

The Fighting Owls drop to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in league action, while the Dons picked up their fourth-straight win to improve to 4-3, 2-0.

Citrus finished with 210 passing yards and 21 rushing yards for 231 yards of total offense.

Santa Ana set the tone early with four touchdowns in the first quarter to jump out to a 28-0 lead.

The Owls responded in the second as Trent Young found Jeremiah Flores for a 31-yard pass to cut the scoreless drought.

With a minute left in the half, however, Santa Ana struck again to hold a 35-6 upper hand at the break.

The Dons kept rolling and scored another touchdown with under a minute left in the third and another with nine minutes left in the fourth.

There was still plenty of time for Citrus to get on the board again as Sal Tovar nabbed a 22-yard pass from Young to score with a minute left in the game. Ivan Castro's point-after-touchdown kick was good to cap the scoring at 49-13.

The Owls continue on the road, heading to West LA next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game time. Citrus returns home the following week, hosting Glendale College at 1:00 p.m.
