San Diego, CA -- One year ago, Citrus College sophomore Brent Watkins, was just a normal six foot 10 inch Citrus College student getting exercise in a general education basketball class. Fast forward 12 months, and Watkins has developed into a solid big man for the Citrus College Men's Basketball team. Big Bad Brent was the key for the Owls on Saturday afternoon as he led Citrus to their first win of the year against Grossmont 92-62 when he scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked four shots.

The Griffins would keep the game close for the first eight minutes of the contest as Citrus held just a 16-14 lead with 12:44 to go in the first half. That's when the Owls turned on the afterburners, Watkins got the ball rolling with a conventional three point play and six minutes later Kerry Carter made a lay-up to cap off a 22-4 run that put the Owls up 38-18. From that point forward the Owls cruised going into the half up 51-31.

Citrus kept it going in the second half never really letting Grossmont get back into it. The Owls shot a season high 48.6% from the field and 48.4% from beyond the 3-point arc on their way to scoring a season high 92 points.

Along with Watkins, sophomore Steven Thorton Jr. scored 15 points, while Carter added 17. Freshman Terrell Todd continue to be the Owls best option off the bench as he poured in a game high 27 points.

With the win, Citrus moves to 1-2 on the year and advances to the Consolation Championship on Sunday at the Knight's Invitational. The Owls will close out the weekend by taking on Cypress College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
