No Defense, No Win For Owls

Glendale, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Basketball team got arguably their worst defensive effort of the year and the result was a bad loss for the Owls. Citrus let the host Vaqueros hit 61.5% of their shots and score 102 points the most points given up by the Owls since they gave up 106 points also to Glendale. The only difference was Citrus own that game, instead of losing this one 102-94.

Things got off to a great start for the Owls, as they scored the first nine points of the contest. Glendale quickly answered with a 7-0 run, and from that point forward it was close. Glendale would take their first lead with just over nine minutes left in the first half 18-16. The Owls would take it back three minutes later off a lay-up from sophomore Brent Watkins that made it 23-22, and they would hang on to until the break where they lead 37-36.

Citrus would cling to the lead until Glendale snatched it back with just over 15 minutes to go. The Vaqueros used a 17-2 run to first tie the game up, take the lead and then rush out to a 62-50 lead with just over 11 minutes on the clock. The closest Citrus would get the rest of the way would be six when a dunk from Kerry Carter made it 82-88. Glendale closed it over the final stretch on the way to their eight point victory.

Carter led the way for the Owls in the loss, with 26 points. Sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. added 17, while freshman Terrell Todd came off the bench and scored 19.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 11-8 on the year and most importantly 4-2 in WSC South play where it knocks the Owls two games back of first place College of the Canyons. Citrus will get a chance to gain a game on the Cougars come Wednesday when they host Canyons for a 5:00 PM tip in the Owls' Nest.
