A Win When They Needed It

Glendora, CA -- With losses in three of their last four games, the Citrus College Men's Basketball team got a win when the needed it on Saturday night. The Owls temporarily stopped their slide with an 85-67 win over visiting Bakersfield College.

It was the Renegades who led the contest first, taking an early 6-2 lead, one that wouldn't last. Citrus scored the next nine points, and just like that were off up 11-6. The Renegades would keep things close over the next ten minutes, but the Owls used a 17-5 run towards the end of the first half to extend their lead to double digits and go into the break up 38-25.

Bakersfield would make a small move to open the second half, and the Owls' lead would fluctuate between high single digits and low double digits. Despite that fact,  Citrus' lead never really seemed in danger as they settled in for the 18 point win.

Sophomore Kerry Carter finished the game with a game high 20 points. Sophomore Gregory Sequele scored a season high 17 points and grabbed a game high 12 boards. Sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. added 15, and sophomore Brent Watkins had his third double-double of the year 11 points and 10 boards.

With the win, Citrus improves to 13-10 on the year and 6-4 in WSC South play. The win ties the Owls with Santa Monica for second place in the WSC South. Citrus will have another tough contest next week when they take on Santa Monica for the third time in the first round of the inaugural Western State Conference South Tournament. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM on Thursday at College of the Canyons.
