Santa Clarita, CA -- Needing a win to improve their post-season seeding on Monday, the Citrus College Men's Basketball team came out of the gate and looked great for the first 20 minutes of play on Saturday night in their regular season finale at College of the Canyons. The second half was another story though, as the Owls were blown out 53-37 in an eventual 79-72 setback at the hands of the Cougars.

Things arguably couldn't have gone better for Citrus in the opening minutes of the game. The Owls scored the first seven points of the contest and 9 of the first 11. Citrus led comfortably throughout the first half, never allowing the Cougars to make it more than a two possession game in that opening frame, and leading by as much as 14 after a layup by freshman Tyler LaCour with 6:33 to go.

The second half was a whole other story for the Owls as they allowed Canyons to shoot 56.3% from the floor, and shot a miserable 41.2% at the charity stripe themselves. Still, the Owls led by three with 8:52 to go after a layup by sophomore Chaunce Hill. Shortly thereafter, the Cougars really put the screws to Citrus, as they embarked on a 14-3 run that was finally broken up by a tip-in by LaCour that made it 65-70 with 1:07 to play.

Citrus would make a last ditch effort pulling to within four after a layup by sophomore Justin Childress with 31 seconds to go made it 70-74, but Canyons hit three of four free-throws down the stretch and the Owls missed a pair of triples to seal their fate.

Freshman Ryan Wiley scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out four assists, and blocked a pair of shots in the loss. Sophomore John Roach added 13 on 4 of 14 shooting from the floor, while freshman Mark Williams had 12.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 16-10 on the season and 9-5 in WSC South play. The Owls should still be in the post-season when seedings are announced on Monday, the only question will be is how low Citrus will drop after losing three of their last five.
