Men’s Basketball Finishes 3rd in Santa Rosa Tourney

Santa Rosa, CA - The Citrus College Men's Basketball program, ranked #17 in the State and #8 in SoCal, headed nearly seven hours North to take part in the Kris Kringle Invitational hosted by Santa Rosa Junior College. The Owls took on some of the top teams in the North, and came home with 3rd Place. 

 The Owls weekend got off to a spectacular start on Thursday evening with a 103-72 victory over Mendocino College. It was the fifth time Citrus hit the century mark on the year, as the Owls were monsters on the offensive glass, collecting a season high 30 offensive boards in the 31 point win. Citrus had five players in double-digits led by sophomore Tyler LaCour's 18 points. LaCour also had six boards and and four steals. Sophomore Donn-Christian Corbin matched his 18 points, adding five assists, while sophomore Calvin Martin had 16 points, and 18 boards. His 18 rebounds was the fourth most rebounds by an individual in a single game in program history. 

In the semi-finals, Citrus faced a tall task when they took on State #12 and NorCal #6 Feather River College. The Owls and Golden Eagles went blow for blow against each other. In the end though, Feather River bested Citrus by one 87-86. Freshman Jeremy Smith had a team high 20 points in the loss, while freshman Andrew Ammann added 16.

In the third place game, the Owls had another tough test in the form of State #16, NorCal #9, and their weekend's host Santa Rosa. Citrus had another great start, going 11 of 18 from downtown in the first half and recording an assist on 16 of their 17 first half field goals. The Owls led the Bear Cubs 49-33 at the break and never looked back in their 90-81 victory. Sophomore Kenneth Cyprian had a team high 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting from beyond the arc. Martin added 13, LaCour 12, and Smith 10 and a team high five dimes.

With the 2-1 weekend, the Owls improved to 12-3 on the year. Citrus will take off the Holidays before resuming CCCAA action with a home contest on Wednesday January 3rd when they host Rio Hondo College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM. ​
