Men's Basketball Neil Edwards Classic: Win Over Chaffey Seals Title

The Fighting Owls turned around from Saturday's semifinal win over Sant Monica and kept the 2018 Neil Edwards Classic trophy where it belongs, in the Owls' trophy case. The Owls topped the Panthers 87-80.

Citrus played solid basketball from the tip off, asserting itself on the defensive end and opening up their 3 point shooting game with solid ball movement and energy. But the Owls went flat at the end of the 1st half, allowing Chaffey a little run before heading off to the locker rooms.

Chaffey kept their momentum going into the 2nd half, where they outscored the Owls 44-40. But the 1st half deficit was to much for the Panthers and Citrus sealed the win by a margin of 7 points.

Psalm Maduakor posted his 3rd double double of 2018 with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and added 2 blocked shots to his stats line. Jesse Elrod tallied up 22 points, rebounding the ball 9 times and dishing 3 assists. Elrod found his rhythm from long range as he sank 6 out of 8 from beyond the arc. Sam Gagliardi had 20 points in the effort, scoring 5 three pointers.

Citrus moves to 5-2 in 2018 as it heads into late November. The Owls take the floor next at home on Wednesday against Riverside. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 PM in the Owl's Den.
