Citrus College grabbed a big win on the road Wednesday night, beating Santa Monica 83-77. With the win – and an LA Valley loss – the Fighting Owls moved into sole possession of first place in the Western State Conference with three games to go.

The Owls sit at 17-8 on the year and 9-2 in conference, while the Corsairs drop to 18-7, 8-3 in conference.

Tyree Winborn had a big night for Citrus, finishing with 30 points in 28 minutes of action off the bench. He was a perfect 14-for-14 at the line, making some crucial free throws in the final minutes of action.

Toby Okwuokei chipped in 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including a 2-for-4 performance from beyond the arc, and dished out a game-high six assists. Leonard Turner and Alex Cartwright were each on the cusp of double figures, posting nine points apiece.

Off the glass, Kendal Frey led the Owls' rebounding efforts and finished the night with eight boards.

The Owls return home to host the College of the Canyons on Saturday, tipping off at 5 p.m.
