San Dimas, CA -- Citrus College sophomore Jacob Rodriguez fired a three under par 69, but the Citrus College Men's Golf team was still edged by the University of La Verne on Wednesday. The Owls hosted the four-year school at San Dimas Canyon Gold Course, and fell by just nine strokes.

Rodriguez had the lowest round of any golfer on the day with the 69. It's also his best round of the year for Citrus early on. Sophomore Brett Smith shot a three over par 75, which tied with two other University of La Verne players for the second best round of the day. From there on out though, it was all 80's for the Owls. Freshman Ricky Hunter and John Gaynor both shot respectable 80's, while sophomore Daniel Olivas had a tough day with an 84.

Citrus will be back out on the course on Monday when they take part in the Western State Conference Event hosted by Santa Barbara City College. The Owls will be teeing off at 10:00 AM at Alisal Ranch Golf Course.
