Palmdale, CA -- After starting out the 2014 Western State Conference season with a pair of fourth place finishes, the Citrus College Men's Golf fell hard the next two matches with 8th and 7th place finishes in back to back matches. The Owls began their slow climb back into the upper half of the WSC on Monday as they had their best combined team round of the year, but still finished sixth at the WSC Antelope Valley Event.

Freshman Benjamin Bencomo put together his best 18 holes of the season, firing a team best 76 at Antelope Valley Country Club. It was Bencomo's best effort since shooting an 83 on the second day of Santa Barbara City College Invitational, and just his second WSC round of the year.  His 76th also tied him with five other WSC golfers for the 12th lowest round of the day.

Sophomore Matt Nolan stayed his steady eddy self with a round of 77. Freshman Takakazu Furukawa continued to show signs of improvement as he shot a 78 easily his lowest WSC Round of the year. The freshman has dropped his score in each of the first four events, seeing a 15 stroke difference from his first round to his most recent. Sophomore Homerson So and freshman Joshua Herman rounded out the scoring with rounds of 79 and 80 respectively.

As a team the Owls shot a season best 390. Citrus finished three strokes back of fifth place Allan Hancock, and just 10 total strokes separated third place from sixth place in what is shaping up to be a tight race down the stretch for those teams in the 3rd-6th place spots.

The Owls will be back out on the links next Monday when they participate in the Western State Conference Allan Hancock Event at Santa Maria Country Club. The first group is set to go out at 10:00 AM.
