Owls Finish Promising 5th at OEC Tee-Off Classic

Chino Hills, CA - The Citrus College Men's Golf team got their 2016 season underway on Monday and Wednesday in the 2016 OEC Tee-Off Classic held at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills. The Owls finished a promising 5th place among the 13 competing teams with a two day total of 804.

 Freshman Brandon Dooley paced the Owl effort over the two day event. Dooley opened with a round of 77 on the North Course, before cutting a stroke on the South Course on Wednesday for a two day total of 153. That 153 would prove to be one of the top three scores of the tournament, that featured 78 golfers. Dooley just missed being named a medalist, losing a card-off to a golfer from College of the Desert. 

Sophomore Tyler Bliss was the next lowest golfer, going 76 and 81 for a two day total of 157. Sophomore Benjamin Bencomo had a strong start on Monday with an 80, but added three more strokes on Wednesday for a 163. Freshman Trevor Perry showed a steady hand, carding an 84 on Monday and then sloughing off four strokes to post a 164 after his second day 80. Sophomore Tyler Hoefferle rounded out the scoring rounds on the week. Hoefferle had a rough start on Monday with an 89, but he posted the best second day turn-a-round, carding a 78 on the South Course for a two day total of 167.

As a team, the Owls shot a combined 804, going 406 on the North Course and 398 on the South Course. Santa Barbara ran away with the competition, posting a 766, but the Owls finished just four strokes out of fourth, 11 out of third, and 15 out of second place.

After this week's season opener, the Owls will kick off Western State Conference competition on  Monday when they take part in the WSC Event hosted by College of the Canyons. Tee-time is set for 10:00 AM at Valencia Country Club in Valencia, CA.
