Bliss and Hoefferle Advance to CCCAA State Championships

Murrieta, CA - Citrus College sophomore Tyler Bliss and Tyler Hoefferle advanced to the 2016 CCCAA State Championships on Monday afternoon thanks to their performances at the 2016 CCCAA Southern California Regionals. As a team, Citrus finished in sixth place out of the eight teams.

In the morning round, Hoefferle set the tone for Citrus, coming into the clubhouse with a 76. Bliss meanwhile posted a 79, while freshman Brandon Dooley and sophomore Benjamin Bencomo each had 84s. Freshman Justin Orona would post the final scoring round of the morning with an 85, putting Citrus at a team total of 408. The score put the Owls seventh after the first round, just five strokes ahead of last place Mt. San Jacinto College.

The second round, would prove to be much more fruitful for the Owls as Bliss blazed the way, by cutting six strokes off his morning round with a 73. Dooley chopped eight strokes off with a 76, while Hoefferle finished his 18 holes with a solid consistent 77. Bencomo knocked five strokes off his previous round with a 79, and Orona even managed to cut four strokes by posting an 85 to give the Owls a 386, which was actually the third best team round for the second go around.

The 386 put the Owls at a total of 794 strokes for the day, moving them three strokes ahead of Ventura into sixth place, just eight strokes behind fifth place Palomar College. Individually, Bliss' 152 was good enough to finish him 12th out of 66 golfers. Hoefferle finished 15th with a 153.

The duo will participate in the State Championships at Desert Island Country Club in Rancho Mirage on Monday May 16th. Tee-time for the opening round is set for 7:00 AM.
