Bakersfield, CA - The Citrus College Men's Golf team finally opened up Western State Conference play on Monday afternoon when they headed North to Bakersfield College to take on the rest of the conference at the WSC Bakersfield Event at Stockdale Country Club. Sophomore James Bragger lit up the course, firing a one over par 73, finishing 3rd individually, but as a team Citrus had to settle for a 5th place finish with just seven strokes separating the second to fifth place schools.

After Bragger it was freshman Aaron Coiner, who continued his recent strong play as of late with a 77. Freshman Joshua Strong was one stroke back with a 78, while freshman Gabriel Sosa carded an 80. Sophomore Justin Orona was the fifth and final score with a round of 83, just besting sophomore Trevor Perry by a single stroke.

As a team, Citrus posted a score of 391, which put them in a dead heat with fourth place Santa Barbara City College. Unfortunately, the sixth man of SBCC also came in one stroke ahead of Perry, giving the Vaqueros the edge in the head-to-head match-up. Still the Owls were right in the thick of things, finishing three strokes back of Glendale College, seven strokes back of second place Ventura College, and a manageable 17 back of first place College of the Canyons.

The Owls will resume conference play this coming Monday at the WSC Event hosted by Ventura College. Tee-time is set for 10:00 AM at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard.
