Owls Fly North, Soar Home With Wins

The Citrus Softball squad hit the 101 North to Cuesta College last weekend for a doubleheader vs the regional rival.  The Owls' returned home victorious, sweeping the Cougars on the day, and outscoring the home team 15-3 in both games combined.

In the first matchup of the two game stint, the Owls pieced together its second shutout of the season, beating Cuesta 6-0. 

Pitcher Becky Winder picked up her first win of the year, pitching a complete game shutout and striking out 5 of 26 batters faced. Giavanna Muenz posted 2 base hits including a double, driving in 2 runs and stealing a base. Megan Jones also doubled, driving in 3 runs and scoring a run. Katie Kempton went 1 for 2 and walked twice, scoring 3 runs. Emily Paredez notched a double and an RBI.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Citrus beat the Cougars 9-3. Muenz would get the win from the circle, her first of 2019. Muenz pitched a complete game, facing 29 batters and striking out 3. Kempton went 3 for 3, notching a triple and an RBI; Muenz got a pair of base hits, scoring 2 runs; Brooke Fuss went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run; Alex Valenzuela put together a complete stat line, going 1 for 3, driving in a run, scoring 2 runs and stealing 2 bags; Alexis Acosta hit a double, driving in 2 runs; and Cerina Martinez scored 2 runs and snagged a stolen base. 

The Owls improve to 5-11 overall in 2019. A slow start by Citrus standards, but the team has been steadily fighting against some of the toughest teams in southern California, and making improvements every day. The Owls take the field tomorrow at Citrus when they host Western State Conference foe Victor Valley at 2:30 PM.
