No. 20 Citrus College Softball Dominates Glendale and Victor Valley with Back-to-Back 12-Run Performances 

Ranked No. 20 in the state, Citrus College Softball delivered back-to-back offensive showcases last week, notching two dominant wins—12-2 over Glendale College on Thursday, April 3, and 12-3 over Victor Valley College on Saturday, April 5. 

The Owls wasted no time against Glendale, erupting for four runs in the top of the first inning. Jaelynn Eaves got things started with an RBI single to score Sofia Femath. Ava Camarena followed with a two-RBI double to plate Alivia Martinez and Eaves, and Breanna Aguilar added a sacrifice fly to bring home Rylee Praytor, giving Citrus a 4-0 lead. 

Glendale answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Owls kept their foot on the gas. In the second inning, Eaves crushed her fifth home run of the season to extend the lead to 6-2. The offensive barrage continued in the third, highlighted by a Caitlin Kelley RBI single and an Aleena Ramos two-RBI knock that brought in Kelley and Camarena, making it 9-2. 

The Owls capped off their scoring in the fourth and fifth innings with an RBI single from Praytor and a two-RBI single from Martinez that scored Aalijah Aranda and Camila Abundis, ending the game via mercy rule. 

Stat Leaders vs. Glendale: 

  • Caitlin Kelley pitched 4 solid innings with 3 strikeouts, allowing just 2 runs. Camila Abundis closed it out with a scoreless inning and 2 strikeouts. 

 The Owls carried their momentum into Saturday's matchup against Victor Valley, racking up 13 hits over six innings, highlighted by a season-best performance from Madelyn Hajj. 

Hajj launched a three-run homer in the first inning—her ninth of the season—to give Citrus an early 3-0 lead. Eaves added an RBI single in the second to score Kelley, and in the third, Praytor scored on a wild pitch before Hajj blasted her 10th homer of the year (now leading the State) to make it 6-0. Praytor would later score again on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 7-0. 

Victor Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Citrus put the game away in the sixth with a five-run rally. Eaves contributed a sacrifice fly, Hajj ripped a two-RBI double, and both Praytor and Camarena scored on wild pitches to seal the 12-3 victory.

 Citrus College returns home on Tuesday, April 8, to host LA Valley College in a conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
