San Diego, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter, and would outscore Saturday's opponent by a total of eight points in the third and fourth quarters. Still the Owls suffered their fourth straight loss at San Diego City College, thanks to a poor second quarter, where the Owls shot just 23.1% from the floor and committed 30% of their turnovers in a 59-69 loss.

The game wasn't lost in the first quarter even though Citrus watched San Diego City run out to a 5-0 lead and the Owls didn't score until three minutes in the game. After the small spurt by the Knight's to open the game, Citrus used a 9-3 run over a six minute stretch towards the end of getting the back end of two free-throws from sophomore Marisa Brown with 1:48 left to tie the game up at 9-9. San Diego would get a layup on their very next possession, and the two teams would be held scoreless over the last minute and a half as the Knight's entered the second up by two 11-9.

The trouble started early for Citrus in the second quarter, when San Diego started the quarter on a 12-2 run. Sophomore Jessica Rosas finally broke up the run with 5:52 left in the first half with a lay-in on a fast-break she led herself, going coast to coast. The Owls would match the Knights effort over the next five minutes of action, San Diego closed out the half with back-to-back treys including one with one second left to push their lead to 18.

The Owls would rally as best as possible, shooting 45.4% from the floor between the third and fourth quarters and beating the Knights +11 on the boards. It wasn't enough to overcome that second quarter though, as the Citrus fell by 10.

In the loss, were paced by Brown who finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Rosas added 14 points, 11 rebounds, and a team high four assists, while freshman Leslie Morfin added 11 and 7.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 1-5 on the year. The Owls will make their home debut on Tuesday evening when they host Los Angeles Trade Tech College.
