Culver City, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball exited the Wild West Shootout hosted by West Los Angeles College after the second day this past weekend. Citrus opened the weekend up with a tall task, taking on State #14 Ventura College. After a loss to the Pirates, the Owls rebounded with a strong showing against NorCal #13 Yuba College, leading at halftime, before faltering by 11.

In the opener against the Pirates, Citrus got off to a miserable start, going 1 for 14 from the floor and turning the ball over seven times while being outscored 22-2. The Owls would show some signs of life in the second quarter with a 14-9 stretch, with sophomores Marisa Brown and Jasmine Meza accounting for 12 of those 14 points. It would be far from enough though, as the Owls went 3 for 18 in the second half on their way to a 30-59 loss. Brown would lead all Citrus scorers with 10 points adding 11 boards. Meza would be next up with seven, with six of her seven coming in that second quarter stretch.

In the consolation semi-finals against Yuba, the Owls had the opposite start, connecting on 43.8% of their attempts en route to a 21-20 lead after one. Citrus would keep their foot on the gas in the second quarter, using a 19-17 second to take a 40-37 lead into the break. In the third, it wasn't that the Owls slowed down offensively as much as the 49ers took off, outscoring Citrus 29-15. The Owls would match Yuba point for point in the fourth, but weren't able to overcome the third quarter in their 73-84 loss.

In the loss, Citrus was paced by Meza who scored a game high 30 points, hitting a program record eight threes in the loss. Brown added 25 and eight rebounds, while freshman Celeste Fekay had seven points and seven boards.

With the two losses, Citrus drops to 2-11 overall the Owls will take the upcoming Holidays off before resuming play the first week of January in the 2017 Canyons Crossover. The Owls will take on Ventura once again in the first of two scheduled games, taking on the Pirates in Santa Clarita on Friday January 6th at 3:00 PM.
