Valley Glen, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team drew the toughest start to WSC East play on Saturday afternoon, when they opened up conference play against State #16 LA Valley College. The Owls were outmuscled by the Monarchs, getting out rebounded by 14 and outscored in the paint by 14 in a 44-64 loss.
The Owls would do their best to keep pace with LA Valley early on, but the Monarchs pulled away early. LA Valley raced out to a 32-13 lead at halftime, as they held Citrus to just 18.5% shooting from the floor in the opening half. Citrus would show some positive signs in the second half, doubling their field goal percentage, and keeping pace offensively with the Monarchs. Citrus would be outscored by just one point in the final two quarters, and committed one fewer turnover then they did in the first and second quarters.
In the loss, sophomore Marisa Brown scored a game high 17 points and recorded her ninth double-double of the year, pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jessica Rosas nearly had a triple-double, with 12 points, 10 boards, and seven assists. With the loss, Citrus drops to 4-13 on the year and 0-1 in WSC East play. The Owls will open up home conference play on Wednesday when they host Victor Valley College. Tip-off is set for approximately 7:00 PM.
