Marauders Steal Second Half from Owls

Citrus College put together two strong quarters to start the game, but couldn't finish it off as Antelope Valley College battled back to win 49-45.

The Owls slip to 13-13 on the year, 3-8 in the Western State Conference-South, while the Marauders improve to 12-13 overall and 5-6 in conference.

Katherine Goostrey was the lone Owl to score in double digits, finishing with 12 points. Joceline Escamilla had a big night for the Owls off the glass, posting a career-high 10 rebounds and two blocks.

After back-and-forth action to open the contest, Citrus had a big second quarter. The Owls outscored the Marauders 16-to-5 to hold a 32-15 upper hand at the break.

Citrus was held to just 13 points in the second half, but never stopped fighting. The Owls called a timeout with 20 seconds to play and trailing by two points, but their last chance on offense wouldn't fall. Citrus fouled with three seconds, but the Marauder made both of her free throws to seal the 49-45 victory.

Prior to the game, two Owls were honored for their time in the program: Julia Garcia Man and Samantha Villa.

The Owls close out the conference season on Friday at Glendale College, tipping off at 3 p.m., before heading to LA Pierce for the season finale on Monday at 2 p.m.
