Assistant Coach Melissa Gillard begins her second season on the bench for the Citrus College Women's Basketball program. Gillard was able to fill in the position toward the beginning of conference play for the 2017-2018 season. Coach Gillard comes to Citrus after being a mainstay in the travel and high school coaching circles. Also, Gillard served as the assistant coach for Citrus Women's Volleyball from 2015-2017.
Gillard's basketball playing career started under Coach Greg Herrick of College of the Canyons her sophomore year (2004-2005) which was cut short due to an ACL injury.
She was an outstanding high school player, prepping four varsity seasons for John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, Ca. During her junior and senior campaign, Gillard earned 1st team All League honors. She also graduated in the top 10% of her class with an overall 3.7 G.P.A.
Gillard began coaching in 2013 and is still currently coaching outside of Citrus. She has spent 3 seasons at Arleta High School, being the assistant varsity boy's coach and freshman boy's head coach. From early 2015, she has spent time with So. Cal Warriors, a non-profit travel ball organization, as a head coach for multiple age divisions and was recently named CEO of the organization.
Gillard earned her AA from College of the Canyons in 2005 and her BA in Sociology from California State University, Northridge in 2009. She is currently attending school to become a physical therapist and resides in Sun Valley, Ca.
