Breakthrough
Bakersfield, CA -- After finishing in second place in each of their first seven tournaments of the season, the Citrus College Women's Golf team finally had a breakthrough on Monday afternoon at the WSC Event hosted by Bakersfield College. The Owls finally finished in first place defeating College of the Canyons in a tie breaker, and edging third place Santa Barbara City College by four strokes.
Sophomore Jamie Lopez led the way for Citrus firing a 76, the lowest individual round of any golfer on the day. Teammate and fellow sophomore Lexandra So was just behind her in second place overall with a 77. Freshman Lexi Tunstad continued to make major strides firing a 81, and finishing in a tie for 6th place individually. Freshman Mackenzy Shafer posted the final scoring round of the day with a 98.
As a team, the Owls shot a 332, matching College of the Canyons who also shot a 332. Breaking the tie came down to the fifth non-scoring golfer for each team, and Brittany Thelen's 99 bested the Cougars fifth player who shot a 112.
The Owls will try and keep their momentum moving forward this coming Monday when they take part in the WSC Event hosted by Glendale College. Tee-time is set for 11:00 AM at Brookside #2 in Pasadena.
