Solvang, CA - The Citrus College Women's Golf team claimed it's highest ever team finish at the 2015 Southern California championships on Monday afternoon. The Owls took second place behind conference rival Santa Barbara City College in advance to the 2015 CCCAA State Championships for the first time as a team.

Sophomore Lexandra So paced the pack beginning on Sunday morning. So came into the clubhouse with and even par 72 and was followed closely by teammate and fellow sophomore Jamie Lopez who rattled off a 73. Freshman Lexi Tunstad was 10 strokes back up so with an 82, while sophomore Brittany Thelen's 91 was the final scoring round of the day. As a team Citrus shot a 318 taking a four stroke lead over Santa Barbara.

The second day proved to be a little more of a struggle for the Owls. Lopez was the steady hand with the 74 while So fell four strokes back with the 76. Tunstad carded at second straight 82, with Thelan rounding out the scoring with a 98, same as freshman Mackenzy Shafer.

Citrus posted a second round score of 330. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to stay in front of Santa Barbara Who finished with the 319 erasing their four stroke deficit.

Lopez's two round total of 147 would be the top two-day, score of the tournament, tying her with Santa Barbara's Carolin Chang. Lopez would lose The first place medal via  a card-off however, instead settling for second. So finished third overall with a 176.

The Owls will be back out on the links next weekend when they participate in the aforementioned State Championships. Round one tees off next Sunday November 15th at 9:00 AM.
